70 Park Terrace East (2023)

In a world where minimalism and efficiency reign supreme, the concept of small living has transcended generational boundaries. While millennials have spearheaded the trend with their tiny houses and van lifestyles, retirees are increasingly recognizing the appeal of downsizing as they enter a new phase of life. With the mantra "less is more" guiding their choices, retirees are embracing the challenge of optimizing their living spaces for both comfort and functionality. This studio apartment space in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan represented a prime example of applying the concepts of minimalism to achieve a comfortable layout in the limited footprint of the space.

Barn Design for Center Street Studio (2001)

When Center Street Studio moved from its early 20th century industrial space in Boston to the town of Milton, the barn had to meet a diverse array of criteria. Practically, it needed to have plenty of shop space with ample storage to accommodate the ever-growing number of printed editions coming out of the studio. Aesthetically, the exterior needed to show its relationship to the late 19th-century farm house next to it. My architectural drawings formed the foundation upon which the Shelter Institute from Woolwich, Maine ultimately built the structure of the course of a few weeks in the summer of 2001.

Loft Space–Fort Point Channel, Boston (1997)

Before my family’s move to Milton, MA in 1998, we lived in an artist cooperative in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood. The cooperative was housed inside a repurposed industrial warehouse space from the late 19th and early 20th century, leaving huge open spaces into which lofts were fitted. My design featured walls that divided the otherwise cavernous spaces into areas that felt more of a home. They also doubled as storage and work-living spaces that, when closed, could seamless blend back into the wall structure separating the different rooms of the loft.

The design of our loft was featured in the Home Office Book by Donna Paul, published in 1997.
